Meet the Team

  • Ann Marie Hormeku

    Publisher

    Ann Marie Hormeku is a writer/editor/publisher obsessed with the intersection of place and identity. She received an Associate of Arts Degree from Georgia State University in 2015 where she was awarded the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award: Emerging Leader. In 2016 she was awarded the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Georgia. Ann Marie received the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate scholarship in 2021. In 2022 she completed Western Colorado University’s Master of Arts program in Publishing where she collaborated with her cohort on an anthology highlighting new mythology, fairy tales, and folklore. Her publishing interests are fantasy and space opera with a preference for world and character-building over action and drama. She lives on a small acreage outside of Athens, Georgia, with her husband and children and enjoys wasting summer days swimming in the backyard pond with her daughters and their pup, Cocoa.

  • Darrel Hormeku

    IT Director

    Darrel Hormeku received his Bachelor of Science in Integrative Studies with a concentration in Information Technology and Business Leadership from Kennesaw State University in 2019. He offers a unique combination of interpersonal and technical skills which he has developed over his decade of experience in the field. His technical aptitude, eagerness to learn, and creativity make him an excellent problem solver. Named employee of the quarter his very first quarter in his first IT position, Darrel has won countless awards for his hard work, innovation, and truly spectacular collaborative relationships and client service skills. He enjoys watching formula one racing, traveling the world, and watching everyone else swim in the backyard pond.

  • Sophie Conrad

    Previous Publishing Intern

    Sophie is a junior at the University of South Carolina Honors College, studying English and visual arts. She joined SkyShark as an intern in the summer of 2022 in an effort to learn more about the publishing field and focus on her passion for literature.

  • Jean Shin

    Previous Marketing Intern

    Jean joined SkyShark Publishers in the summer of 2022. She is a junior studying human rights and public health at Columbia University. She wanted to join the SkyShark team because she appreciated SkyShark’s mission statement and wanted to learn more about the book publishing process.

Join The Team

SkyShark Publishers Inc. maintains two seasonal internship positions. SkyShark interns are given the opportunity to work directly with publishers, contractors, authors, and IT to provide assistance for our upcoming projects. Interns are able to join meetings, are included in email threads, and are encouraged to voice their opinions and ask questions as a member of the team. Additionally, we have an archive of educational materials and resources and are happy to schedule individual meetings, answer questions, or assist in career planning. Internship Positions

Marketing Intern

Are you interested in watching a start-up develop from the beginning? Have you considered a career in public relations or marketing in the trade publishing industry?

SkyShark Publishers Inc. is a brand new independent publishing house building our brand from scratch seeking a student to join our efforts to develop our authors, develop our brand, and grow our industry recognition. Our industry is in transition. We hope to find someone who revels in experimentation and isn't afraid of failure to help us develop new ideas for thriving in a field where many have faltered due to an unwillingness to change.

Tasks include:

  • Review branding material for consistency across platforms.

  • Help create and execute social media, email, or other marketing campaigns.

  • Brainstorm ideas for future marketing/branding endeavors.

  • Guided market research, as needed.

  • Social media and website maintenance.

  • TikTok, just like in gerneral.

We are looking for an excited individual who enjoys researching, collaboration, and action. Strong organization skills are required; avid reader is preferred.

This is an unpaid internship; the time commitment is limited to 5-8 hours per week.

Publishing Intern

Are you interested in learning about publishing? Maybe you're a creative writer hoping to understand more about what publishers do. Or Maybe you love books so much that a career in publishing is the only way you will ever get to read your fill. Do you have a knack for recognizing good writing when you see it or knowing which new TV show is going to be really popular? Is your TikTok FYP 80% BookTok?

SkyShark Publishers Inc. is a small independent publishing house seeking a student to join our publishing team. Help judge incoming manuscripts, develop current projects, and send our authors' book babies out into the world.

Tasks include:

  • Screen incoming submissions.

  • Assist with formatting and layout for current projects.

  • Provide feedback on cover design and cover copy.

  • Assist with fact-checking and proofing.

  • Assist with metadata.

  • Monitor email account.

Organization skills, attention to detail, and a love of reading are a must.

This is an unpaid internship. We limit time commitment to 5-8 hours per week in the interest of balance.
